- Individual In-car Instruction. As many parents remember that you shared the car with at least one other novice teen driver, often 2 or more, which even today most public school programs and co-ops that contract with your teen's school, still do. As a professional driver education school, we feel that your teen deserves individualized driving instruction versus sharing the instruction time with other teens. It's important for your teen to focus on their training without distraction, peer pressure, and risk from other students in the vehicle. The instructor can focus their training on your teen alone without the additional expectation of training students in the back seat.
- A Current and Modern Class Curriculum.
We use AAA's "License to Learn" classroom curriculum in which much of
the presentation is as though the camera is in the driver seat. This
gives your teen a more realistic perspective of what they will see
behind the wheel. We provide your teen with a workbook
and driver manual. Our curriculum both in-class and in-car, devotes a
significant amount of time toward "Defensive Driving" skills that will
help your teen avoid a crash as well as control their vehicle
skillfully and safely. Training your teen the risks and responsibility of driving, which kills more teens than any other cause, is critically important. This task REQUIRES a trained classroom instructor who is passionate about teaching your teen about the attitudes and challenges of driving today. This classroom training cannot and must not be replaced with a home-based online computer program which the public high schools attempted to sell to Indiana teens. That is still their goal to replace classroom instruction with an impersonal computer program rather than develop a classroom curriculum. Don't accept a substitute for trained instructors.
- Our In-Car Training Curriculum. Our in-car curriculum is very detailed in order to provide consistent training on all basic driving skills and maneuvers as well as all basic driving environments such as residential, rural, moderate and heavy traffic, and interstate driving. Each drive we document how your teen is doing on each skill and maneuvers as well as how they perform in each environment. This progress is documented in detail for each of the 6 hours of driving your teen completes and is available to you upon request. We do NOT teach them how to pass a driving skills test, but more importantly how to perform skills that will reduce the chances of a crash.
- Our Class Schedules. With today's busy schedules for both teens and parents, we have more class schedules to choose from than any other Driver Education program in the area. We offer 3-week, 6-week, and 12-week classes including weekend classes. See our Class Schedule to learn of our multiple offerings. Plus with hosting so many classes, making up a class is simple and easy. Our policy is to allow a student to miss a class yet still make them up during a different session schedule. Each class functions as an individual unit as each class has a designated professional curriculum.
- Our Instructors. They are the best driving instructors in Indiana. We recruit experienced instructors, most who are also licensed school teachers and many who have been referred by other members of our staff. Our professional instructors are re-licensed each year by the BMV. This licensing process includes a review of their driving records, a limited criminal background check, and medical physicals (2-years) conducted. Unlike the independent contractor relationship the public school and co-op programs use, our instructors interact daily to discuss your teen's training, continually review our in-car instruction curriculum and make improvements based upon safety experts and contributions of each instructor.
- Parental Involvement. Proper education of a novice teenage student driver requires more than just the school but also the parent. We invite and include you in several ways to participate with your teen in their driver education training. We encourage you to speak with your teen's instructors at any time. We invite and encouraged you to ride on 1 of the 6 drives with your teen so that you can observe our instruction, especially our communication skills that we use during the in-car training. Most driver education programs exclude the parents entirely.
- Convenient Location. Please check our "Directions" map under the Quick Links menu. Our student bio includes teens from as far away as Mooresville and Shelbyville. We also have 3 restaurants in the Vista Run plaza that we are located in. We are at the intersection of Emerson Avenue and Main Street, just off the I-65 Exit 99 interchange.
- Our Vehicles. We use the new model Chevrolet Malibu 4-door vehicles for our in-car training. These vehicles allow room to adjust for comfort and control as well as being an easy-to-control vehicle.
- Our Facility. Our facility is in an ideal location to drive in residential, light traffic, rural, heavy traffic and interstate environments. We have 2 locations in Greenwood and Avon Indiana, classrooms with seating room for up to 30 students. Overhead projection and surround sound with the latest technology.
- Our reputation. Channel 8 WISH-TV, Fox 59, BDTV, and Angie's List have chosen Drive Zone for several news-related and business-related features. Check out the "Dangerous Driving" video and Angie's List article, both of which can be found on our web site from the home page and also in the Parent-Zone.
- Our costs. With the quality, flexibility, and features of our program, we offer very competitive fees. Unlike many other programs, we offer on-going discounts, payment-plans, AND do not require a full up-front payment for most class courses, but allow payments to be made during the course. Please call or "Contact Us" to find out about are various fees, discounts, and payment options.
When shopping for a Driver Education program for your teenager, it is very important to review what the school does offer in addition to the price and payment options for the course.
