Parental Involvement

No one is more concerned about the safety and security of your children than you! That is why our program is designed to include parents in classroom and in-car training activities. A lifetime of collision-free driving starts with the "STP" cycle. The "STP" cycle represents Student, Teacher and Parent participation. Drive Zone is a leader in the effort to save lives of teen drivers by providing training and consulting to the entire family. Many parents will use phrases like "Watch Out" or "What Are You Doing" during supervised drive time. We teach parents to use phrases like "Keep Your Eyes Moving" and "Cover The Brake". You will be amazed at the difference these terms make in the driving experience for you and your son or daughter. Consider the Drive Zone staff as your personal team of professionals dedicated to helping your children transition safely from bicycles to cars. We will provide a solid foundation of techniques, skills and attitudes for your new driver, and you will be better prepared to help your child gain the experience needed for a lifetime of collision-free driving.

Unlike most other driver education programs, Drive Zone strives to involve you the parent in the driver training of your teen with several opportunities for you to participate WITH your teen.
  1. On the first day of class we invite parents in for a 30-minute introduction program where we can go over policies, procedures, and offer answers to all of your questions.
  2. On the final day of class we invite you the parent into the final 45 minutes of class where we present a "wrap-up" program so that we can answer all of your questions so that you can continue training your teen to become a smart, safe, defensive and responsible driver. We also go over the "next steps" that you and your teen will take, as they move forward to get their Driver's License.
  3. AND, we invite YOU to participate in a drive "ride-along", where you can observe our instructor teaching your teen. Through this hour long ride, you will gain a tremendous amount of "coaching" techniques to be a more effective driving coach. It's very important to know how to communicate, what phrases to use and those that we should avoid, how to describe details of maneuvers, how to expose the student to new environments and skill requirements.
