From Beginner to License Program

At this time, the driving simulator is only available at our South Side office located at 8932 St. Peter St.
Starting out as a new driver is hard. Whether you are an adult that has made the decision to earn the freedom of a driver’s license, or a 14 year old who is just starting out, learning to drive can be a daunting task.
With the Drive Zone Beginner to License program, our aim is to take some of the guesswork out of the process and guide you through the process from start to finish.
Utilizing our driving simulator, we are able to allow you or your child to begin getting some practice behind the wheel long before we would be able to legally do so in an in-car situation. This will allow the student to have a higher level of comfort when they first climb behind the wheel, reducing anxiety and stress and allowing for a more positive experience. For more information on the driving simulator, please feel free to take look at this page.

It’s no secret that the hardest part of earning a license is almost always passing the permit test. With this in mind, we have developed an online curriculum specific to passing the Indiana Permit Test. This is not just a series of practice tests, this is a course designed to present the information necessary for passing the permit test before giving you practice tests. The course allows for 30 days of access, but can be extended to allow you to review the material as much as necessary before the test. This permit course is not intended to substitute the 30 hour online course that we will discuss later.
Once you turn 15 the real fun begins. On your birthday, we can issue you what is called a certificate of enrollment. This is paperwork that indicates to the BMV that you are enrolled in a behind the wheel driver’s ed course. Armed with this paperwork, you can proceed to the BMV to take (and pass) your permit test and receive your permit.

After your 15th birthday, even if you have not received your permit yet, you can begin your 30 hour online course. This course is the first part of what he State of Indiana sees as a full driver education course. It is recommended but not required that you complete this before beginning your behind the wheel lessons.
So by now you have your permit and have completed your online course. Great! Now we can finally put you behind the wheel! The basic package of behind the wheel lessons is six hours, which is what is required by the State of Indiana to count as completing the course. We offer packages of 12 hours for students who need additional practice, or 50 hours for students who need help completing their required practice hours on their permit. Regardless of your situation, we are here to help.

At this point, we have completed:
- Simulated practice hours
- Obtaining the permit
- 30 hours of online coursework
- Behind the wheel lessons
So what’s left? One last thing: The driving test. As long as you have completed the online course and at least six one hour lessons behind the wheel, you can do this test with us. That means all you will have to do after passing is take the paperwork we give you to the BMV and trade it in for a license. Of course you will still have to be at least 16 and 90 days old and have held your permit for at least 180 days before they will give you a license.
That is how Drive Zone can guide your from Beginner to License!
